So Many Presents!

Today we made another present cake! We are getting to the point with these cakes that we really don't even have to talk (or think, much) about the cake at all while we are making it... We just blab about whatever is on our minds and the cake just sort of happens...

I'm not so sure how I feel about that... Maybe it's time for a new challenge...

Baby Shower FUN!

"What were we THINKING?" is what Laura and I usually say when we commit ourselves to more than one cake in a weekend. Not last night though...

Laura and I both have sweet friends who asked us to make a cake for the baby showers they were hosting. We decided that since the paisley cake was so enjoyable to make, we would look closely at that experience to see what we could learn. Mostly what we came away with was eating dinner before we started yelling at each other and vowing to never speak again would be the first step to successful baking/ decorating (we are two GRUMPY girls when hungry). This changed our experience drastically! We were calm, happy, and simply loved every second of the process!

The first cake we made was for a boy. His name will be Mason, and Laura and I just loved that name so much that we decided it should be on the cake. Luckily, the mommy had a blog that we could peruse to "get to know her" before we designed the cake. Her fantastic blog gave us an idea of the colors and type of design she would want. We felt confident by the end of the night that she would be pleased with our creation. We surely were!

No strict guidelines were given for the second cake... we had a vague idea of what we wanted, but ultimately decided to "go with the flow." Needless to say, we were nervous! With several new supplies, we tried a few things until we came up with an idea that worked (we think) very well! As Laura said, "It looks like a REAL baby gift!"

By the end of the night we were talking about how much we ADORE making cakes for baby showers! There are endless possibilities for sweet designs!!!

Leah and Lauren's Paisley Cake

My sister Leah and her friend Lauren wanted to try making one of our cakes, so they came over to my house on Monday and Tuesday for their first lesson!

They pretty much did the whole thing while I watched and instructed! Mallory was still in SC on Monday, but she joined us on Tuesday and helped out with the decoration!

Leah and Lauren had high hopes for this cake design and we were both pretty pessimistic about how it would turn out... It seemed so detailed and intricate and complicated and... we just didn't want to give them any false hope that they would actually be able to complete such a masterpiece...

IT TURNED OUT GREAT!!!!!!

Honestly, I don't think we've ever completed a cake so cute and they are first-timers! They are totally going to be designing all of our cakes from now on!!

We broke our cardinal rule...

After the infamous weekend of the doxie cake AND the Auburn cake, we promised each other that we would NEVER again attempt two cakes in one weekend... BUT, as I'm sure you are aware, last week was FUN WEEK. It was pretty much inevitable that two cakes would fall on the same day...

This Saturday we spent the entire day getting these cakes done - but it went so much better this time!

The first of the two cakes was a surprise to us (well, we found out about it AFTER our fondant prep day of 9 colors), so we had to make the fondant first thing... We decided to go with lighter colors than usual, but we love them so much! The texture of our new fondant was perfection! The cake itself was a fun & new design for us, so we have a new favorite cake...

We then moved onto our next onesie cake... those things have become pretty popular... Maybe they'll become the next Lava Lamp or Beanie Baby or Tamagatchi or something, and we'll work like crazy for three years and retire at the ripe old ages of 26 & 27! Hey, it could happen...

Anyway... this cake was for Leah and Baby Carson! We took our inspiration from the baby registry and did this one in blue, brown & ivory with dots to match Carson's room. We heard it was a hit at the shower, so we are thrilled that they were happy with it!

Cassandra's Baby Shower

Sorry for the delay in uploading the pictures we promised of OUR BEST CAKE EVER!! I was running around like a crazy person on Sunday, so we didn't take the time to take adequate pictures of the cake. This is a picture that Cassandra's Nana took at the party... and as it turns out, this is the only one!

I've actually been eating part of the leftovers of this cake today at work (6 days after its "birth"... haha) and it's still so super yummy! So not only was this cake a huge success because of the way it looks, it tastes perfect, too! I've even been told by multiple fondant haters that this is the best fondant they've ever eaten... Cassandra won't stop eating it and she hated the stuff before she tasted ours! Her teeth have been blue off and on all day!

I must say that the shower was a huge success overall, and we are thrilled that the cake was only one little part of the wonderful day! Congrats Cassandra and Jeremy! We can't wait to meet Baby Judson!

11/11/08: We found another picture!! Yay!! This one is a better view of the cars! Thanks, Mrs. Ivey for sharing it with us!!!

Out of the depths of despair...

Even though we ended October on a really bad note...

Happy NOVEMBER! That means it's the beginning of FUN WEEK, and we're off to a GREAT start!

Last week was horrible, as everyone knows... but Cassandra...and everyone... must have been praying really hard... because this week's first cake was FANTASTIC!!! Our best yet!!!

We'd been so nervous about beginning it, but wound up having such a great, easy, wonderful experience. We finished in record time... even cleaned up before it was time for lunch!

Maybe we're finally starting to get the hang of this cake decorating thing...

CHECK BACK TOMORROW FOR SOME IMPRESSIVE PICTURES!!!

Let's just say we put the areas best bakeries to SHAME!

Birthday Cake Catastrophe

Now that Camron's SURPRISE birthday party has come and gone, we can post pictures of the disaster that was intended to be his birthday cake! We know now what went wrong (so we can avoid this in the future), but we were so discouraged when we discovered what had happened! The cake split in two!!

Of course, the party was still a huge success! We had a last minute substitution cake from one of the more professional bakeries in town and the "30" cookies that Mallory and I made last night... And, Davenport's Pizza is always wonderful! It was a great time!!
